By examining material cultures created by prehistoric people, this thesis aims at shedding the light on the relationship between the Chi-wu-yuan culture in the late Neolithic age and Tu-ti-kung-shan type in the late period of the Yuan-shan culture in the Taipei basin. According to existing literature and the results of carbon-14 dates, the Yuan-shan culture ranged from 3200 to 2300 B.P. Tu-ti-kung-shan type discussed in this thesis was in the late period of the Yuan-shan culture, dated around 2800 to 2300 B.P. or even extended to around 1700 B.P., and distributed over southeastern half of the Taipei basin. However, the Chi-wu-yuan culture was around 2500 to 1800 B.P. and occupied the western and southwestern portions of the Taipei basin. The period and spatial distribution of the two different types of cultures overlapped, which can be represented by the Chi-wu-yuan site located in Zhongzheng District in Taipei City. This thesis mainly depends on the excavation of the Botanical Garden Site in 2009, and is based on the study of cultural relations in the field of cultural anthropology. Beginning with the definition of the study of cultivation, I refer to the notions of localization and local culture proposed by Pan, Ing-hai, and the theories of area traditions and sphere of interaction by Chang, Kwang-chih, Wendell C. Bennett and Joseph R. Caldwell in order to explain the theory of sphere of interaction in the formation of prehistoric culture in China. I also intend to take another viewpoint to explain that cultural relations of two different types of archaeological cultures which overlap in terms of time and space in the Taipei basin in the late Neolithic age.
