摘要


本研究主要探討R. G. Paulston的社會地圖學及其在比較教育研究上的應用,研究目的在探究Paulston社會地圖學的理論思想背景、內涵及實際應用情形,藉此了解Paulston社會地圖學在研究上的貢獻及限制,並綜合研究結果,研擬建議提供我國比較教育研究作為參考。 本研究運用歷史研究法與理論分析法進行,由歷史研究法探究Paulston社會地圖學的理論思想背景,並以理論分析法來探析社會地圖學之理論思想內涵,針對其實際應用在比較教育研究上的例子進行說明,探討社會地圖學在比較教育研究上的貢獻與所受到的批評。 根據研究結果發現,Paulston之學術背景與經歷豐富,在其所創建之社會地圖學中,亦兼採比較教育、後現代思潮與空間論述等不同學科的思想。因此,在社會地圖學中,包含許多不同的學科理論與概念。除此之外,Paulston曾說明社會地圖學的繪製方法,幫助研究者來了解如何進行實際的地圖繪製。而在研究中,還可以發現,社會地圖學已廣泛的應用在不同領域與各種層面的研究中。綜而言之,經由本研究對社會地圖學的探究,社會地圖學是一種幫助研究者以地圖與空間的取向來觀看研究對象的工具,有別於以往注重文本與時間敘述的研究取向,它提供研究一個更為多元且另類的觀點。

This study aims to explore R. G. Paulston’s social cartography and its application to the comparative education research. The purpose of this thesis aims to investigate the theory of social cartography and its application to the research. By exploring the social cartography, we would understand its contribution and limitation in the study. Finally, this study would provide some suggestions for the comparative education research in Taiwan. In this thesis, historical research and theoretical analysis are used. The researcher use historical research to explore the theory background of social cartography, and use theoretical analysis to understand the theory of social cartography. Then introduce its application to the comparative education research. At the end, the researcher would explain its contribution and limitation in the study of comparative education. According to the results, we find Paulston had diverse academic backgrounds and experiences in his career. As to the social cartography, it also adopted the idea of both comparative education, postmodernism and discourses of space. In addition, Paulston had explained that the drawing method of social cartography to help researchers to understand how to map. And in the study, we also can found social cartography has been widely applied in diverse areas and studies. In conclusion, we can understand social cartography is a tool to help researchers with using map and space to watch the object, which replaces the focus on the research in the text and time. It provides a more multiple research and alternative views.
