The study uses the technology, Augmented Reality ( AR ), to develop an assisting system to help people learn to play flute. Moreover, through the methods of experiments and interviews, we can test and understand the efficiency of the assisting system. With using video practicing, the assisting systems can make the illustrations of relative fingering overlap with the flute which is grasped by the learner. The new method lets the learner see both his own fingers and the illustrations of relative fingering at the same time. On the viewpoint of learners’ accuracy and proficiency in fingering, the result shows no obvious differentiation between using assisting system and using traditional method. But from the viewpoint of descriptive statistics, learners using assisting system have little higher figures than those using traditional fingering table in both indicators. In addition, the result of interviews show that most of the learners have positive attitudes to the assisting system and believe the system is helpful in learning the flute. Besides, the study also probes into the area of relative limits against the assisting system.
