臺灣西洋棋發展之研究

A Study on Chess Development in Taiwan

摘要

本研究從運動社團之角度出發，旨在探討臺灣西洋棋之發展現況、問題和推廣方法。研究方法為文件分析法、參與觀察法和半結構式訪談法，透過文件的收集與整理分析中華民國西洋棋協會之組織性質、創立背景、發展經過和現況，並分別從政治、經濟和文化三大社會力量檢視外部環境性對組織之影響。並以中華民國西洋棋協會之棋手、家長和管理階層等9人為研究對象，進行半結構深入訪談。研究結果發現：
現時棋協組織架構不完善，部份幹部使命感低；發展問題上延長賽程知易行難，訓練課程門檻低；推廣上運動贊助商結合度不足，西洋棋商品化意識低。針對結論研究者作出以下建議：1. 物色有志之士；2. 爭取臺灣性比賽經費；3.尋找運動贊助之利基，以及商品化之可能。

This purpose of this study is study the origin , problems and promotion development of chess in Taiwan by probing into the clubs and organizations of the sport. I conduct a literary review that goes into two directions --- it analyzes the inner structure of the Taiwan Chess Association, including how it is founded, organized, developed, and run currently, and also the outer influences from politics, economics, and culture. My methodology includes documentary analysis, semi-structured interview, and participant observation, and I conduct in-depth interviews with 9 interviewees, including chess players, their parents, and also the administrative staff in the Taiwan Chess Association. My findings are as follows: 1. the administrative organization is not well-structured, and some staff members lack commitment to the sport, 2. there are obstacles to extending tournament days, and 3. Training courses are too easy for students, 4.the lack of connection to sports sponsors makes it hard to commercialize the sport, and 5. there has been little or no attempt to propagandize the sport. From these findings, I concluded with three things we we can do to make the sport better in Taiwan: 1. Recruit more people with commitment to the sport, 2. seek funding from the government and sponsors in Taiwan, and 3. Work more closely with sports sponsors to propagandize the sport as a cultural product.
