From original wall-painting to modern design, human beings invent the most suitable and rapid communication media continuously. From concrete images drawing to condensed symbol expression, the transmission is not only the features but also the spirit which is hidden inside. The expression of silhouette is formed gradually by the vision experience. It gets rid of the unnecessary images and keeps the important ones which are experienced by most people. It’s the important form and effect in the visual design. In the aspect of application , from the poster design to visual identified system, our life is full of the application of silhouette. The use of way and arrangement is very extensive. If we can analyze and generalize the silhouette, it will be good for the application of visual design in the future.
The expression form of silhouette is to simplify the image to the visual symbol which contains strong characteristic outline. It can make a deep impression to the audience in the short time and attract them to understand the content deeply to get the purpose of visual expression. In the complicated and changeable environment, the attention of people is scattered continuously. The more concise of the visual target, the more rapid of mastering the visual experience, people can make the judgement and inference further. The silhouette is the form of simplifying images. After the inference of visual experience and proof, we can get the message of the mediator.
I proposed a visualization method to analyze the various types of silhouette art and transform the tokens to usable elements. By collection, induction, and analysis these elements, it could structure the creative factors to express the new visual feeling of plentiful contents in simplest expression. In the topic of women growth, I designed the posters by the simple and meaningful limbs movement’s images. I used the silhouettes of women graphics agilely and re-combined them and visual elements to the simplified poster works. In the creativity, I tried to use the way of presentation, metaphor, and humor to express the intension and effort of women who confront the growth.
After research and analysis, we can find that the most suitable media for silhouette form is the poster. Furthermore, the advertisement of newspaper and magazine are suitable for use too. Meanwhile, the internet multimedia is more appropriate. The silhouette form can enhance the transmission efficiency and save the time of readers; it can also stand out in the complicated visual environment to reach the effect of strong and rapid visual expression.
