Paper using is one of the important folk arts in China. Paper-cutting is the perfect combination of folk culture and folk life, and it is the asset with in-depth culture. Every paper-cut has its special symbol and meaning, and western paper-cutting art has already become one of the visual communication methods that we often see in our lives. Western paper-cutting is not only flat surface anymore, the paper is flexibly used in our daily life three-dimensionally, such as lamp, furniture, and clothes; all of these are the art that has been accumulated and passed on from year to year. This study attempts to fuse the elements of eastern and western paper-cutting art culture together so as to look for the strength of new life from the traditions. Photographic technique is used to transform marine life into image and this image is integrated into poster design, trying to break through the existing paper-cutting thinking so that the paper-cutting could get closer to our lives after the transformation of design. This creation theme focuses on the problems that marine ecology in Taiwan is facing. Paper-cutting is the technique and photography is the medium, both of them are applied to poster creation so as to develop “marine garden” series, including the creations of 20 marine ecology posters. Hopefully, the creation of marine ecology poster is able to pass the conservation concept down so that the public could pay much attention to marine ecology conservation.
