The purpose of the study is to investigate the computer network use of Taipei junior high school students and to examine the relationship among computer network use, parent-child interactive relationship, and parent-child interaction on computer network use. Survey questionnaires were used and 1,139 valid data were collected. Instruments utilized in this study were include ‘The computer network use for junior high school students survey’, ‘Parent-child interactive relationship scale’, and ‘Parent-child interaction on computer network use scale’. The data obtained were analyzed with frequency, percentile, chi-square test, one-way MANOVA, and canonical correlation analysis. Results indicated that computer network is very pervasive used among junior high school students. The ways of computer network use are significantly different among those students with distinct backgrounds. Parent-child interaction on computer network use is significantly different among them with varied backgrounds and with different ways of computer network use. Nonetheless, interaction between parents and children on computer network use should indeed need to be improved. While the general interactive relationship between parents and children in daily life is significantly not the same among them with different using ways of computer network, Interacting on the computer network has several correlations with the general interactive relationship in daily life for junior high school students and their parents. Possible reasons for those discrepancies and the correlations are also discussed. Based on the results of this study, some suggestions for educating and guiding adolescents and for future research were proposed for reference.
