The purpose of this study is to investigate the background and the role of technology coordinators in junior high schools in Taiwan. It also aims to explore the problems encountered by the technology coordinators when doing their duties. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 410 technology coordinators in all junior high schools that officially had a technology coordinator position, with a result of 305 questionnaires returned, a 74.4% response rate. The study found that the average the TCs served in schools is 11.5 year long. Eighty-three percent of them were male teachers. Twenty percent of the TCs owned a computer science related bachelor degree, and 56% of them were certified computer teachers. In addition to the average 8.6 hours per week teaching load, the TCs performed a wide range of duties, including managing network, maintaining hardware and software, providing support for other teachers, and doing technology related administrative work. They considered the management and maintenance of the network, system, and equipment as the most troublesome work. Most of the TCs felt their job load was too heavy, and only about one third of them considered to keep staying on the position.
