Hong Kong had been under British colonial rule with a short-term occupation by Japan, and then was returned to China. This made Hong Kong a colonial, immigrant society with a blend of Chinese and Western culture. Throughout the years, Christian churches in Hong Kong had played the role of gospel bridge between China and the world; not only so, they also had made important contributions in Hong Kong's social services. Among the many sects of the Christian church, the Church in Hong Kong (Church Assembly) is a Chinese self-reliant church in China. Nowadays, it has spread across five continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, America, and Australia. Recent researches on the Church Assembly were mainly based on theological studies, and rarely cut into the perspective of social studies. This study uses the Church in Hong Kong (Church Assembly) as a research object, and from the perspective of religious and social studies, tries to analyze the historical background, structure and management, network and development of the Church in Hong Kong (Church Assembly) through document analysis, semi-structured interviews and observational method. Through the case study method, discussions are made on the following aspects of the Church in Hong Kong (Church Assembly): its historical context, operational structure and distribution, church network, impact on personal values and society. Finally, this study also probes into the current challenges faced by the Church in Hong Kong (Church Assembly) and the way it responds to them. As such, this study provides an additional piece of picture of the Church in Hong Kong (Church Assembly) for the history of the Chinese self-reliant churches in Hong Kong.
