ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the discourse functions of do-you-know bundles in Taiwanese Southern Min from a pragmatic perspective. The analysis of the current study is based on 18 hours and 44 minutes natural spoken data with 250,000 words of Taiwanese Southern Min conversations. In this study, the three-word do-you-know bundles appear the most frequently in the know bundles. Four counterparts of do-you-know bundles (LTB, LTIB, LKT, and LKTI) are discussed and analyzed. Four main functions of do-you-know bundles are discussed: turn-management, attention-getting, stance-marking, and newsworthiness and extreme case formulations. LTB, LTIB, LKT, and LKTI have become fixed expressions with little literal meaning on whether one has specific knowledge. Since most of the data show that the do-you-know bundles in Taiwanese Southern Min do not require answers to the question-like statements, it is suggested that the do-you-know bundles have gradually turned into discourse markers. Keywords: know, lexical bundle, discourse analysis, discourse marker
