霍爾斯特《第一組曲》作品二十八第一號之作品分析、指揮詮釋與版本研究

Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-flat for Military Band is regarded by many as the first orginal band composition. This thesis explores the history of military band in Britain, and how they developed their own culture under the influence of Turkish Jannisaries and Prussian Military Band. With efforts by patriots such as Somerville (J. A. C. Somerville, 1872-1955), it became possible for more original band compositions to become a staple repertoire for bands. Research further analyzes and illustrates the historic background, its premiere, and the reviews and comments on the several publications of the Suite. The original manuscript of this score was discovered in 1970s, allowing people to re-examine the Suite. The researcher also analyzed some clues found in these manuscripts, and anatomize the thoughts, the ideas, the challenges and the choices made by Holst while composing. The thesis then includes discussions of orchestration, transcriptions and corrections in the various editions of the Suite.
