This thesis and its objection is to re-recognize the value and importance of Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony. Chapter 1 will be mainly about historic background in Beethoven’s time and, genesis to this work, especially Beethoven’s legacy (both musically and historically) through the third movement of this Symphony. Chapter 2 will be analysis of this work, movement by movement (courtesy of Breitkopf & Härtel and its score). In the third and final Chapter, interpretation (from conductors’ viewpoint) will be discussed. This includes personal opinion/examination to three different interpretations from world-renowned conductors, actual problem at rehearsals, etc. Details between different editions of music will all be issued at the fourth part of this Chapter. The author of this thesis did the best of his ability, contribute to Mandarin-speaking area of the general musical society, through his thesis-working progress.
