According to the features of performing arts such as healing, stress relieving, improving perceived waiting time, this study assumes that performing arts environment managed by hospitals: 1. might ameliorate patient satisfaction, especially the score category of “wait times”, and healthcare workers might feel less stressful simultaneously; 2. would make patients and their families not only enjoy comfortable services but get added value; 3. would benefit performers themselves, such as accumulating personal experiences, drawing inspirations, and even developing audiences by serving society. In this research, taking National Taiwan University Children’s Hospital as a case study, employing qualitative research to conduct documentary analysis, naturalistic observation, and in-depth interview with 16 people including relevant staff, patients and their families as well as performing artists. Based on findings: 1. future event planning should increase frequency of performances, interesting interactions, pluralism of themes, etc. 2. wait times and staff’s attitude are key factors of patient satisfaction; 3. public and staffs in hospitals have demands and expectations for performing arts environmental management; 4. under the premise of noticing patients’ mood and patient safety, performances could be arranged in outpatient waiting area, and small-scale busking project is suitable in this case; 5. The immaturity of performing arts market in Taiwan influences the cooperation between health care organizations and performing artists. For the problems discovered, I present applicable recommendations for health care organizations, government, enterprises, and performing artists at the end of this study, expecting that more and more scholars would care about performing art environmental management in hospitals in Taiwan.
