A method to improve scraping efficiency and reduceresidual burrs was identified in this thesis by observation and study of traditional scraping. Computer-aided drawing program was introduced to establish the physical models of square, triangular, crescent-shaped and chidori-shaped (千鳥型) scrapers before these scrapers were actually made. Finally, suitable pneumatic device was selected to be combined with the designed scrapers. A series of scraping trials showed that the four types of oil pocket commonly seen and made were easily produced by using this scraping technique. The scraping efficiency was also significantly improved on several types of conventional machining center. The burrs generated from scraping were much fewer than those generated from conventional scraping. The work efficiency of scraping technicians was improved effectively, and the new technique helped people by saving time and energy while the quality of products was maintained at a stable level. The new scrapers are easy to install and cost less expense, which is a great contribution to scraping.
