十二氫氧基硬酯酸摻雜於液晶引致垂直排列之研究

摘要

本研究利用向列型液晶摻雜12-氫氧基硬酯酸(12-hydroxysteric acid，以下簡稱HSA)製成液晶盒，並觀察其特性。我們發現，當HSA摻雜於向列型液晶中，且在玻璃基板無任何配向處理的情況之下，HSA對液晶擁有自發性垂直排列的現象，免除了一般垂直配向必須對基板做表面處理的程序，進一步簡化製程。根據這一點，我們製作了僅單面水平配向的HSA-液晶樣本，此樣本不僅呈現了與混合(hybrid)配向樣本一樣的初始相位，憑藉著HSA的自組織特性，讓此樣本擁有多穩態的操作模式。

The study uses nematic liquid crystal doped with 12-hydroxysteric acid (HSA) to make liquid crystal cell and observe its characteristics. We found that when doping HSA into nematic liquid crystal and when without any alignment treatment on the glass substrate, HSA has spontaneous vertical arrangement phenomenon on liquid crystal. It avoids the procedures for general vertical alignment which must make surface treatment on the substrate and can further simplify the process. Then, we made the HSA and liquid crystal sample with only one side parallel alignment. This sample not only shows the same initial phase as hybrid alignment liquid crystal sample, but also has multistable operation mode depending on HSA’s self-organized characteristic.
