In the rising East Asia, there are two great powers now facing changes: One is Japan, which is now having a recessive economic. Another one is China, which is a rising developing country. These two great powers, which have great influence over the Asia Pacific, are now undergoing different development. Because of the geographical proximity and the friction from World War II, the relationship between these two countries doesn’t go smoothly. Nowadays, in the era of globalization and the international society which runs basing on cooperation, for a greater benefit, Japan and China couldn’t escape from the cooperation. Therefore, on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation, Japan and China have a joint statement between the government of Japan and the government of the People's Republic of China on comprehensive promotion of a "Mutually Beneficial Relationship Based on Common Strategic Interests" in 2008. This statement is the first one to mention about the substantive goals about the relationship between Japan and China. Base on "Mutually Beneficial Relationship Based on Common Strategic Interests", this study is trying to identify whether the substantive goals can improve the relationship between Japan and China? And bring out what kind of opportunities and challenges may the relationship between Japan and China face in the future?
