Vahicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) emerged as a new research area recently which can provide many convenient services for our daily life, such as driving safety and journey guiding in our daily life. To facilitate these services, routing is a basic requirement of VANETs. Position-based routing protocols are especially suitable for highly dynamic topology of VANETs. The prerequisite for position-based routing is the location service which aims to management location information of vehicles and provide the information to vehicles before routing data communication. In a location service, location updates of vehicles usually acquire most overhead in order to obtain high location query accuracy. In this thesis, we proposed a trajectory-aware location service using trajectory planed by GPS navigation system to decrease update overhead. The planed trajectory can predict location of a vehicle at any specific time which can reduce frequent location updates. We also proposed tolerant mechanism to handle prediction inaccuracy due to the velocity variation. Our simulation results show that the proposed location service can decrease lots location update overhead while keeping high location query success rate.
