The purpose of this study was to explore how the usage of multimedia instruction with IS association method for Taiwanese vocational high school students affect on learning Japanese Alphabet - Hiragana. This study adopted the quasi experimental research and divided students into the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group used the multimedia materials of Image-Story Association method; the control group used the traditional materials. All students took the Hiragana performance test and have the Hiragana retention test after a week. The result showed the effect of using IS association method on Hiragana is better on performance test and also enhance the learning retention.
