In recent years, financial technology has flourished. From 2008 to 2017, global investment in fintech has more than tripled. However, in the past literature, most of them analyzed the innovation of financial technology or the litigation of technical and financial patents, and less literature focused on financial patents in the financial industry. Therefore, this article takes the financial industry patent application from 2008 to 2017 in Taiwan as the research object, analyzes the relationship between financial patents and performance, and examines the impact of average patent growth rate, interest rate, and size on profitability. As a result, it was found that the average patent growth rate and interest rate have a direct influence on the return on assets, indicating that financial patents have an impact on improving the performance of the financial industry.
