The R.O.C. Army ground defense is aimed toward "mechanization, automation, and co-operation". It could enhance the ability of maneuvering and command communication, then defeat the enemy ashore. The mortar is used and its firepower is enhanced due to an appropriate command and skilled shooting techniques. The weapons system could also support the first-line infantry and destroy the enemy’s command systems or facilities. It also enables the users to restrict or cease the operations of enemy reinforcements, and effectively carrying out mortar battle missions. In order to improve the power and combat capability of the combat forces, many countries all over the world are developing the lightweight mortar designs. The T75 mortars were used as a prototype in Taiwan. Various light metallic and composite materials have been well studied and a new material was chosen. Moreover, the choice of new materials was used to substitute the current design, and the newer version of the mortar was verified based on different phases of live firing tests such as different amount of the propellant was tested. The desired goal of this program is to reduce over 15% of the original weight, which is aiming to seek a better mobility and combat power.
