Strategy of supplying molecular oxygen is very important in microbial fermentation. Zygosaccharomyces rouxii is a yeast strain of many applications in the biochemical industries. This research investigated the dissolving dynamics of molecular oxygen in aqueous fermentation medium, intermittent pressurized oxygenation for cell production, and the effect of oxygen supplement on the uptake of trivalent chromium in the medium by the cell. Experimental results revealed that Henry’s Law is applicable in the ranges of pressure and glucose concentration adopted in this study. Intermittent pressurized oxygenation facilitated the cross-membrane oxygen transfer and enhanced growth efficiency. Cr3+ uptake to synthesize intracellular GTF needs anaerobic environment. Experimental results revealed high efficiency of GTF in terms of glucose metabolism and growth rate.
