This research mainly uses the patent citation perspective to explore the technical ecology of e-commerce. The patent database of e-commerce is aggregated from USPTO, and the patent co-citation approach method is used to understand the relationship between cited patents. The classified technological groups by factor analysis are labelled according to technological characteristics through manual interpretation. The results shows that the technologies of e-commerce can be divided into ten groups, respectively like: 1. Business cash flow 2. Data consolidation 3. Electronic auction/Internet auction 4. Message classification 5. File encoding transmission 6. Characteristic analysis 7. Personal information protection 8. Website design 9. Third-party payment 10. Information protection. These technologies have been commonly applied in e-commerce areas. This study will provide the results to those who are applying e-commerce platforms and ready to invest e-commerce platforms in the future.
