Abstract Schumann completed “Fantasiestücke” in 1837, the suite is constructed by eight character pieces in two parts - four pieces in each part. Each work has attached to the poetic title, and the content is rich in imagination. From the work, one can feel the ultimate poetic and fantasy style of Schumann. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, describes the purpose of research motivation and research method; the second chapter discusses to Schumann's “Fantasiestücke” in the relevant life, and background; the third chapter is an analysis and interpretation of the“ Fantasiestücke” Op. 12; the final chapter is a conclusions, summing up the analysis and the research, hope for a deeper understanding of Schumann's unique musical style when interpreted his work.
