This article attempts to elucidate characteristics of Mainland China’s outward FDI in ASEAN by virtues of case studies. We examine the location choice, entry modes and motivations of Chinese MNEs. This research shows that the central committee state-owned enterprise take achieves the government policy goal as a motive. The non-central committee state-owned enterprise and the private enterprise pursues the profit, develops the market is the goal. When it comes to the industrial choices, the central committee state-owned enterprises concentrate in the mining industry; the non-central committee state-owned enterprises and the private enterprises concentrate in the labor-intensive industry. In addition, the central committee state-owned enterprises take advantage M & A primarily. Non-central committee state-owned enterprise and private enterprise use green land investment.
