The Effect of EMG Biofeedback in the Management of Central Type Facial Palsy Resulted From Stroke: A Preliminary Study

摘要

自一九六○年代起，肌電廻饋療法就被利用來治療中風半身不遂之病人，但却很少人提到用此法來治療中樞性顏面神經麻痺。本實驗即為了證實肌電廻饋療法對中樞性顏面神經麻痺之療效而設計，將九位第一次腦血管病變伴隨中樞性顏面神經麻痺之病人隨機分為三組。第一組為肌電廻饋療法組，第二組為傳統運動治療組，第三組為對照組，前二組均訓練四次。
每個病人在治療前後都接受了臉部表情積分、嘴角歪斜程度、徒手肌力檢查及積分肌電位的評估。實驗結果顯示肌電廻饋療法組進步最多，靜態臉部表情又比動態臉部表情進步得多，而上臉部進步比下臉部多。
經過本實驗，作者認為在往後的實驗中應該增加病人數，而且增多治療次數，當可使此實驗更具說服力。

EMG biofeedbark was applied in the treatment of the hemiplegics in order to facilitate motor learning since 1960's. But few paper mentioned about its effect on central type facial palsy. The present study was designed to find out the efficacy of EMG biofeedback by collecting 9 patients who had first attack of stroke with central type facial palsy. They were grouped by random into 3 groups. The first group was trained by EMG biofeedback while the second group by traditional therapeutic exercise, each group for 4 times.
Evaluation of facial appearance, mouth angle deviation, manual muscle testing of facial muscles and integrated EMG for bilateral facial muscles were given pre-and post-treatment for all patients during resting and active facial movements.
It showed that EMG biofeedback group has had the most remarkable improvement especially in static facial appearance. Besides, the upper face recovered better than the lower one.
More subjects and training sessions will be needed in the further study to prove the significant value of EMG biofeedback technique in the management of facial palsy of central type secondary to stroke.
