摘要

本文探討了在漢譯英中當尾心與尾重難以保持一致時的各種處理辦法：可僅保留尾心；也可將信息中心移至句首或句中從而僅保留尾重。此外，在主位、述位內部還可根據詞語的信息值高低來安排前後位置。最後作者分析了影響到句子結構安排的各種制約因素。

The end focus and the end weight usually, though not invariably, coincide with each other in an English sentence. In translation from Chinese to English, however, the English version is sometimes influenced by the Chinese original and therefore the end focus and the end weight cannot be conveniently arranged together. A number of methods are proposed in this paper to deal with this situation. For example, the end focus can be retained at the sacrifice of the end weight. Also, the end weight may be kept while the information focus is moved to the middle or even the front position of the sentence. Some other methods like the separation of a long noun phrase are also introduced. Within units smaller than the sentence such as the theme and the rheme, it is also necessary to analyze the relevant communicative values of the various words so as to arrange the word order accordingly. A proper arrangement of the word order within the theme may partially fulfill the need of the end focus. Finally, some constraints on the choice of one method over another are discussed.
