The atrophic rhinitis is a chronic disease with dry nasal cavity, atrophy of nasal mucosa and nasal bone, the formation of heavy crust in nose, loss of sense of smell, and wide nose cavity. If bad odor is found in the nose, it is called ozena. It is also called atrophic rhinitis in Chinese medicine due to the atrophy of nasal mucosa. According to Chinese medicine syndrome, it can be divided in four types, such as Yin Deficiency with Dryness of the Lung, Yin Deficiency with Dampness-heat, Lung and Stomach with fever, deficiency of both spirit and blood. It can be treated by Yang Yin Qing Fei Tang or Lily Tang, Licorice Root Tang, Humulus Cordifolius Tang or Linen De-toxic Tang, Central Spirit Supplement Tang and Four-herb Tang etc.
