In the beginning of Japanese colonial period, the Japan government started Taiwan Soutokufu Medical School to raise modern medical doctors. Laid down rules to supervise the amount of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) doctors, held TCM qualifying exams. All these policies were to suppress TCM and to support modern medicine. As the result, TCM had been diminished gradually. However, Taiwanese people didn't give up on traditional medicine. TCM doctors strove in this situation as well, such as taking qualifying exams, sending petition to the government, and invested in the works against epidemics.
