Neuropsychiatric disorders such as delirium, dementia, and depression are common among elderly patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease. These patients are at higher risks of mortality, poorer quality of life, poorer treatment adherence, higher rates of dialysis withdrawal, and higher rates and costs of treatment compared to other chronic illnesses. Early diagnosis of neuropsychiatric disorders and prompt intervention and treatment could benefit these patients in terms of mental health and outcomes.
