Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is recognized as the most common endocrine disorder of reproductive-aged women around the world. The prevalence of PCOS among reproductive-aged women ranges from about 5% to 11-20%. The symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) include menstrual cycle disturbance(irregularity, menstrual dysfunction, oligo-ovulation, or anovulation) and features of hyperandrogenism (hirsutism, acne and alopecia), with associated fertility problems, obesity and psychological issues. Taken together all of the classical texts in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), polycystic ovary syndrome is often presented with syndromes, which can be generalized to "menstrual disorder", "amenorrhea", "gynecologic abdominal lumps", and "infertility". These clinical manifestations according to ancient literature are often associated with kidney-qi deficiency, insufficiency of the spleen, liver-qi stagnation, Phlegm-dampness constitution, blood stasis or stagnated heat in the body. In this article, a 37-year-old woman with PCOS presented with infertility came to our outpatient department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and was pregnant after TCM treatment . We also had a review of Chinese and Western Medicine periodicals, literature, and textbooks on PCOS.
