The Relationship among Psychological Skills, Perceived Competence, and Self-Esteem

心理技能、知覺能力與自尊相關性之分析研究

摘要

The purpose of this study was to examine potential correlations among psychological skills, perceived competence and self-esteem in different categories such as individual athletes, team athletes, and gender. Male (N=290) and female (N=198) participants were recruited from sport pro grams in the National Taiwan College of Physical Education. The results were consistent with the hypotheses that for athletes a higher level of coping skills can lead to a significant increase in perceived competence and self-esteem. In addition, the multiple regression analysis revealed that perceived competence was a strong variable in predicting self-esteem. Moreover individual athletes displayed a significantly higher level of self-esteem than team athletes. Male athletes achieved a significantly higher level of athletic competence, appearance, global self-worth and self-esteem than female athletes.
