As yet, most research undertaken in the field of management follows the patterns of scientific research carried out by physical scientists with heavy reliance upon quantitative and statistical technigues. In fact, by doing so, it has implicitly accepted several important underlying assumptions concerning the ontological as well as espistemological nature and properties of the subject matters under investigation. This paper attempts to point out the weaknesses and flaws associated with the assumptions and calls for more attention to the use of the so-called qualitative approach to the study of management problems. Along this direction, the differences between the quantitative versus qualitative approaches are also briefly compared and discussed.
