This article was aimed to explain the author's reason for writing his book ”Knowledge and Action” and the applicability of that book in social science and liberal education. The book consists of two parts, the first park discusses the change of Western philosophy of science from logical positivism to scientific realism and its implications for social scientists in non-Western society. Following fashionable research paradigm of Western social without a fully awareness about that change may lead to the loss of one's academic identity. The second part describes how he developed the model of ”Face and Favor” on the basis of realism, and how he analysis the Chinese cultural tradition of Confucianism, Legalism and Martial school by the method of structuralism with a reference to that model. Finally, this article also provides some examples for illustrating how to conduct social research in Chinese social by using the conceptual framework presented in that book.
