With the example of Life-and-death studies, this paper is to explore how general education and course design correspond with each other. First of all, we discuss the meaning and major topics of Life-and-death studies, make clear its nature and characteristics as a academic field. Second, discussing the ideal of general education and essences of course design, we further analyze the requirements of courses to b regarded as general education proper. Finally, re-grouping the field of general education, with human as the center- the first requirement of course design of general education., we propose 4 related fields. The second requirement of course design of general education is being able to provide ”viewing” and the ability to make crucial decision. This paper points out that Life-and-death studies well correspond to the principles of course design of general education. Furthermore, it indicates they are intrinsically related, and therefore suitable for typical general education, and reference to design of relevant course.
