本文首先界定所謂「人之素質」一詞中的「人」,不是指作為範疇的、抽象意義下的「人」,而是指作為當前台灣具體而特殊的社會、政治、經濟脈絡下的「人」。第二節分析當前台灣的人之素質之根本問題在於「自我」(self)之「去脈絡化」(de-contextualization),台灣的諸多亂象皆由此而生。本文第三節則分析近五十年來台灣的教育之所以對「人的素質」之提昇助益不大的原因,尤其集中在教育的「工具化」與教學內容的「空洞化」等兩個現象。本文第四節則針對「如何透過教育以提昇人之素質」這個問題,提出建官,指出:「自我」的「主體性」之建構,以及「自我」與「他者」之「互為主體性」關係的建立,應為二十一世紀台灣教育改革的重要方向。第五節則綜合全文論述提出結論性的看法。
This article aims at an analysis of the enhancement of the quality of man in Taiwan in the light of education. In the first section, I indicate that the problem of man is best reflected upon in the concrete and specific context of Taiwan. Then, I identify, in section two, that the major problem of present-day Taiwan lies in the fact that the ”self” in Taiwan is a ”de-contextualized self.” The third section of this paper is devoted to an analysis of the shortcomings of education in Taiwan as a factor affecting the quality of man. The remaining sections four and five reach the conclusion that Taiwan's education in the twenty-first century must devote more attention to the establishment of the students' ”subjectivity” so as to develop ”inter-subjectivity” between the ”self” and ”the other.”
