大學通識教育的理念與實踐:兼論元智大學的案例

The Philosophy and Practice of General Education in University A Case Study of Yuan Ze University

摘要


大學教育除了培訓專業人才之外,更要爲國家社會儲備貫通各學門領域,有分析綜合能力的「全人」,以適應未來變遷的社會,吾人亦深和時下大學生空有文憑形式,卻無寬廣的知識、良好的溝通技巧與人際關系,欠缺邏輯思維、群體觀念,令人尤心忡忡,誠然我國大學雖亦借鏡國外辦理通識教育經驗,多方倡導推行,惟仍諸多荊棘,前景未必美好。不過也不必太過悲觀,觀諸近來各大專校院紛紛辦理通識教育研討,足見通識的春天已然來到,祇是其實務面又有那些問題,需再加以思索,未來的展望又爲何?國內各校不妨彼此交換經驗心得,取精去蕪,發展一已特色,故本文特將新興學校如元智,發展之經驗抛磚引玉,願共同找將來努力點,乃爲本文旨趣所在。

University education aims to foster professionals. It also has a mission to reserve “the holistic person” who has a thorough understanding on different academic fields and a capability of synthetic analysis in order to cope with the changing society in future. The diploma is known as a mere formality, which means that the current undergraduates might have broad knowledge, and good communication skill and human relationship, together with logical thinking and cooperative concept. Although general education has been advocated and prompted throughout the universities of our nation by borrowing experiences from foreign countries, difficulties remain on the way to the bright prospect. However, the situation is not so pessimistic in spite of the fact that conferences about general education have been hosted by many universities in recent years. It evidences that general education is to be thriving only if it is found out what problems are to be taken into thinking in practical ways and how the prospect is to go for. In developing the characteristics of each university, it is suggested to exchange experiences with one another and learn from those who are prominent. So, this is the purpose of this paper to take Yuan Ze University as an example to share its developmental experiences with other institutions and also as a guide to find out the directions striven for in common interest.
