The main purpose of the paper was to use the regional input-output model to evaluate the impact of Chisingtan Scenic investment on the economy of Eastern Taiwan from 2003 to 2006. The result indicated that increasing investment in tourism and leisure section (”sales and purchases”, ”transportation and terminal” and ”communication and entertainment culture services” industry) would recover the growth of all the industries in eastern Taiwan. The simulation results showed that, the establishment of Chisgtan Scenic Area has increased the output of the industries in eastern Taiwan by 102.34 million in 2006. The main affected industries were ”public and other constructions”, ”other services”, ”sales and purchase”, ”communication and entertainment culture services” and ”agriculture”. Relevant departments can choose industries with greater forward linkages or backward linkages as their preferential industries during the process of setting area development plans.
