An atypical carcinoid tumor contains nervous endocrine cells and is seldom seen. It usually occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs and trachea of people between 50 and 70 years old. The literature reports that most otolaryngological cases of this tumor involve the larynx. We found no reports of atypical carcinoid tumor in the nasal cavity. In July 1998, we had a patient who suffered from intermittent nasal bleeding. We found a smooth pink tumor in the middle conchae and septum on the left side of his nose. After excision of the tumor, the final pathological diagnosis was atypical carcinoid tumor. The patient recovered well after surgery and had no complications or signs of relapse after one year of follow up.
