Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was performed with a Siemens Lithostar on 8 cases (13 renal units) of nephrocalcinosis in Air force and Tri-Service General Hospital from January 1990 to December 1993 to evaluate the effects of shock wave lithotripsy in treatment of renal intraparechymal stones. There was no significant benefit in treatment of renal intraparenchymal stones. Neither did stone fragments pass out grossly nor was these significant stone burden change on X-ray films before and after ESWL management as immediate or eventual results.
