Routine tympanometry uses 220 Hz (or 226 Hz) as the probe frequency. This could not make differences among the tympanograms of hypermobile eardrum, atrophic scar on the eardrum, and ossicular chain discontinuity, because all these three conditions might have the same tympanograms of type AD. In this paper, we reported a patient with traumatic ossicular chain discontinuity of the right ear. Frequencies 220 Hz and 660 Hz were used respectively for tympanometry. Type E tympanogram was revealed by using the 660 Hz as the probe frequency, while 220 Hz tympanometry only showed AD type.
