Extramedullary plasmacytomas of the head and neck are uncommon plasma cell dyscrasias. They are localized, submucosal tumors. Four fifth occur in the upper aerodigestive tract. The neoplasms account for up to 4% of non-epithelial tumors of the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx. The diagnosis of extramedullary plasmacytoma can only be confirmed after the exclusion of multiple myeloma by serum and urine protein electrophoresis and immunoelectrophoresis, skeletal survey and marrow biopsy. Three patients with extramedullary plasmacytoma of the head and neck are presented and the literature is reviewed.
