Acute vertiginous patients who had poor response to the treatment of sodium bicarbonate were studied. Among those of central vertigo, Group A consisted of 39 cases treated with Rheomacrodex, while Group B was 12 patients treated with normal saline or 5% glucose solution. the group-A patients experienced complete symptom relief by 1.8 ± 1.0 day, subsi-dence of spontaneous nystagmus by 2.1 ± 1.2 days, and average admission period by 4.3 ± 1.4 days, which were significantly earlier than those in group B(p < 0.05). The incidence of brainstem stroke was notably high (43%) in the ineffective group, while that of central vertigo without specific delineation was predominant in the effective group.
