Society increasingly recognizes the necessity of moral formation as part of the education of the whole person. Chinese society has long perceived this need and its culture includes writings specifically for the purpose. Pedagogical research suggests that the imaginative and effective teaching of literature also admirably fulfill the function of moral formation, helping students interpret their personal experience and become wholly developed personalities. The function of the teacher in this process is of the utmost importance. The implementation of really good language arts teaching has the intrinsic power to transform society.
