National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS) of ROC was established in 1983 based on two goals: (1) To explain the theories and phenomena of natural science and provode scientific interest of the public. (2) To collect and study natural specimens which are representatives of the country. Mycological goup of NMNS belongs to Botany Department of the Division of Collection and Research, and started in early 1991. In NMNS, there are three mycologists nesnonsible for fungal studies and collections. Dr. Yei-Zeng Wang specialzes in the taxonomy of (cup fungi). Mr. Wen-Neng Chou, the collection manager, is interested in Agaricales and gasteromycetes. The author studies mainly Aphyllophorales of the Basidiomycotina. One staff is in charge of fungal isolation and culture maintenance, and another assists in collection, preparation and conservation of specimens. Three thousand fungal specimens mostly of Ascomycotina and Basidiomycotina are currently deposited in the herbarium. They are safely stored in a computer-controlled environ ment with puoper humidity and temperature. Aprepared catalogue of the fungal collections is available upon request. Culture collections are mainly of wooddecaying fungi, and maintained separately in liguid nitrogen. (-80℃)and cold room (10℃).
