Yu-Di Huang plays an important role in the modern music history in our country. He, at the age of nineties, has still insisted on his own principles of musical education. That is ”one has to compose the nation's own music, devote himself to the public musical education, and keep contributing himself to the country and society as well.” One of his important works, ”Musical Poetry”, based on the seven-word poem, ”Pi-Pa Hsing”, composed by the poet, Chu-Yi Pai in Tang Dynasty, combines reciting, piano music and choruses. Mr. Huang's history, thoughts of music, principals of musical education as well as the analyses of the qualities of harmony in Chinese style, Chu-Yi Pai's ”Pi-Pa Hsing”, and Mr. Huang's musical poem, ”Pi-Pa Hsing”, etc. will be discussed through this essay. To sum up, it is hoped that we can catch on the musical style and contents of Mr. Huang more deeply by doing so.
