並列摘要

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between form-focused instruction and the use of grammatical structures in college freshmen's writing. Participant s in this study were twenty six college freshmen in a private university of technology located in Shenkeng, Taipei. Using a follow-up attitudinal seven-point Likert scale survey instrument, and open-ended questions, the study explores the nature of the grammar-related input available to learners in their writing class, the relationship between students' metalinguistic knowledge of grammar and their ability to use grammar in their writing, and students' perception s of the role of grammar in their English learning experience and, particularly, in their writing. The major findings of this study were that students possessed a generally positive attitude toward grammar instruction, and had a high level of metalinguistic knowledge. Based on the findings of this study, several pedagogical implications and recommendations for future study are discussed.
