H-index在大學層級學術評估之應用

Application of H-index for Research Evaluation at University Level

摘要


本研究延伸Hirsch提出之h-index概念,試圖將h-index突破個人評鑑範圍,延伸其應用至大學層級的學術評鑑。本研究針對世界各地近七百所大學進行之h-index測量,製作前五百名學校排名清單,除分析不同洲別、國家在h-index的表現外,並討論二岸四地學校的h-index表現。同時,本研究結果與廣為接受的上海交大世界大學排名榜進行相關分析,發現h-index可以成功的應用在大學層級的學術評估,其雖具有數值容易相同的問題,但仍可視為一項同時評鑑學校研究成果質與量之快速判別工具。

H-index is used originally to evaluate and characterize the scientific output of a researcher. The major strength of h-index is that it takes into account both the quantity and quality of one researcher's output, as represented by his or her number of publications, and citations they receive, respectively. A ranking of the worlds' top universities and research institutions based on their h-index scores was produced. Then the geographic distributions by continents and by countries of the highly ranked universities were discussed. Regarding the applicability of the h-index at the institutional level, it is found that a high correlation between the ranking of h-index and that produced by Shanghai's Jiao Tong University (JTU). The results suggest that the validity of the h-index in the assessment of research performance at the institutional level.
