Assessing College Student Learning Outcomes: What Could We Learn from American Public Research Universities?

The purpose of this study is to review student learning outcomes assessment programs of a dozen selected public research universities in the U.S. Major findings, including assessment principles and practices, are summarized in this paper. They offer excellent assessment models for any higher education systems that plan to use learning outcome assessment as a mechanism for assuring quality of college education and improving instructional programs.
