Dehumidification system is necessary for ice rink operation. Preventing building condensation and ice rink fogging is also important. The indoor moisture mainly comes from outdoor air, people and vapor produced during ice resurfacing. Applicable dehumidification systems are namely refrigeration type and desiccant type. The energy consumption and the ice surface quality of an ice rink are related to the design of the dehumidification system. This study presents the principles of the dehumidification systems related to ice rink design and also the design parameters. The optimization in energy consumption for cooling and dehumidification are also presented.
