Using literature to teach language is a popular idea for ESL/EFL teachers. This topic is based on using the Tang Poems to teach ESL/EFL students in Taiwan, the United States or abroad. First, the author reviews relevant ESL literature: (a) the teaching of culture through literature; (b) a rationale for a literature-based ESL/EFL curriculum. Second, she provides English translation of the poems on the video as well as the strokes needed to write six key Chinese characters from each poem. Finally, the author offers one Chinese poem and one English translation poem from Tang Poems.
